Imran Khan’s Letter: Key Concerns
Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and PTI chairman, has written an open letter to Army Chief General Asim Munir. In this letter, he addresses critical issues like political instability, human rights violations, and the deteriorating state of Pakistan’s economy. According to him, the letter was written with good intentions to improve the country and its people. He also claimed that 90% of the public would support the six points he raised.
Allegations of Election Rigging and Judiciary Control
Imran Khan alleged that the current government was formed through pre-poll rigging and manipulation of election results. He accused Parliament of passing the 26th Constitutional Amendment to take control of the judiciary. He also criticized the implementation of PECA (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act) for silencing voices against oppression.
Harsh Prison Conditions
The PTI chairman revealed the injustices he has faced in prison. He claimed that he was kept in a death row cell for 20 days without sunlight. For five days, the electricity in his cell was turned off, leaving him in complete darkness. His exercise equipment and TV were taken away, and he was denied newspapers and books. He also expressed frustration over being allowed to talk to his sons only three times in six months, despite court orders. Similarly, he has been denied meetings with his wife, who is also being kept in solitary confinement.
Political Targeting and Threat to GSP Plus Status
Imran Khan highlighted that over 2,000 PTI workers, supporters, and leaders have their bail applications pending in courts. He criticized the use of PECA to restrict social media and internet freedom. According to him, such actions could jeopardize Pakistan’s GSP Plus status.
