PM Imran defends stance on complete lockdown as cases past 182,000

The Prime Minister is still adamant on his decision of not imposing a complete lockdown in the country event with the strong criticism saying that Pakistan’s circumstances are very different from that of Wuhan City and Europe.
Speaking about the havoc that coronavirus has inflicted on Pakistan’s economy the Prime Minister said that had not been in favour of imposing a lockdown as the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done.
Pm Imran was addressing the committee for the start of the three Ehsaas initiatives. The three Ehsaas initiatives are Ehsaas Rashan Portal, Ehsaas Langar and Panagah App and PM’S COVID Relief Fund Website.
He said, “the elderly people are those already suffering from serious diseases and are the most vulnerable and if they are protected against the virus the impact of the pandemic will decrease.”
He added, “The next month will be difficult for dealing with the pandemic.”
The Prime Minister talked about “the damage it has done to the economies of different developed countries like Italy and the United States when they had to impose a complete lockdown, saying that long queues of people can be seen in America asking for food and charity.
He added “So it had to happen in our country too. And if the provinces would have asked me, I would never have allowed such a lockdown because when you are about to impose a lockdown you should think what effect your decision can have on others.”
The Prime Minister said that the provinces shouldn’t have ordered a lockdown until they thought about the effect of their decision on the people who have daily wages and those who are poor.
He added “However everyone panicked all at once. They were looking at other countries like Europe and Wuhan City in China and forgot that we are going through different circumstances. Our situation is different.”
The Prime Minister also talked about how he was being subjected to criticism for not enforcing a complete lockdown across the country. Modi imposed the lockdown their critics wanted me to impose. I thank God that I defied pressure and didn’t impose it noting that there are 34% of people in India who are currently facing hunger and extreme poverty.
Pm Imran praised Dr Sania Nishtar and her term for providing billions on rupees to people in a short period. He said that the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund will still be used to provide relief to people that lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic adding that the government will add to each donation to make sure that every one person receives maximum relief.
