Riaz’s lawyer, Rana Maroof, claimed the lawsuit was illegitimate and unfounded. He said Riaz’s father never worked for the government.

Riaz’s second lawyer, Azhar Siddique, claimed the anti-corruption investigators had no evidence against his client.
The court was informed, “These people came to my house.” They won after I quit. They weren’t allowed in my residence. After having me sit in the vehicle, they entered my residence. They searched my residence for 15 minutes.
He said the authorities lied about the transaction. “The last deal was worth 11 million rupees.” “We agreed to do this for more than Rs4m,” stated he.

Riaz: “It bothers me that my father has been called corrupt.” He also described his father as honest. He requested removal of his father from the initial information report.
Riaz vowed to battle the “corrupt mafia” and trusted the courts.
The anchor stated he “borne all the cruelty” alone. He said “If I’m stuttering again today, it’s because my father was called corrupt.”
Riaz: “The institutions and their people are mine, even if they beat me… These are ACE employees doing their jobs.” “If they arrest me today, there’s a chance that other people will meet me in jail and torture me.”
He assured the court, “But I will bear that cruelty.” He said his wife begged the guys who nabbed him last night and asked why the anchorperson was detained. Rizaz: “I didn’t know why they were arresting me or who they were.”
He stated he surrendered himself in but urged police not to visit his residence. Riaz: “They broke into my house, and I have no idea what they did there.”
He hoped Pakistan “will not stay like this forever.”

The court postponed considering whether to physically repatriate the anchorperson. The court denied the ACE’s request and detained Riaz until a judge could bring him back.
After reviewing the evidence, the court noted that the accused was “clearly named in the FIR, and a specific role has been attributed to him.”
Rereading the record shows that the prosecutor has all the materials they need to investigate. In the enquiry, the court ruled the accused had handed the IO all essential papers.
He mentioned that the suspects didn’t require physical remand since authorities confiscated no items. He further noted, “Therefore, the court has rejected the Investigating Officer’s request for 14 days of physical remand. The court is now sending the accused to judicial custody for 14 days.” Court date for Riaz is March 8.
PTI opposes Riaz’s “illegal arrest” and wants him released.
The PTI announced that authorities had “illegally arrested Riaz once again” and demanded his release. On X, the party claimed that the illegal, authoritarian, fascist regime had “tortured Riaz and made him disappear against his will for many months.”
It claimed, “Imran Riaz Khan is one of the journalists who has continued to speak out against the regime’s crimes and illegal, unconstitutional actions.”
The article stated Riaz was “using his voice against the unprecedented, brazen electoral fraud that stole the two-thirds majority mandate of Imran Khan’s PTI,” some time ago.
PTI leader Omar Ayub Khan severely denounced the arrest. He described Riaz as an “independent-minded journalist” who had faced imprisonment for months.
“He was freed when he was fragile, and he suffered a lot during his “forced absence.” “This shows that Pakistan does not have ‘rule of law’,” stated.
2023 Imran Riaz arrest
Authorities detained Imran Riaz, a YouTuber and TV broadcaster, two days after PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s imprisonment on May 9 sparked nationwide demonstrations.
No one heard from him again. His arrest took him to Cantt police and Sialkot prison. On May 15, a police official informed the Lahore High Court that they released the anchorperson after he made a promise. But his whereabouts remained unclear.
Later, on May 16, the anchorperson’s father, Muhammad Riaz, filed a FIR with the Sialkot Civil Lines police regarding his daughter’s abduction.
The police accused them of kidnapping Riaz under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which allows for covertly and wrongfully confining someone. The police filed a FIR naming “unidentified persons” and themselves.
A reporter’s father begged the LHC to help him recover.
At the May 19 LHC hearing, the anchorperson’s father cried and asked for forgiveness since he didn’t know where his son was. The following day, the LHC chief judge ordered the police to discover and return the anchorperson by May 22.
On that day, the LHC ordered the interior and defence ministries to “discharge their constitutional duties to effect the recovery” of the anchorperson. The Punjab inspector general claimed no police unit had seen the journalist.
The Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence then informed the LHC that they did not have the anchorperson. On May 26, the high court ordered “all the agencies” to identify and bring the anchorperson to court by May 30.
The Punjab IG informed the LHC that the case included Afghan phone numbers on that day.
The anchorperson’s lawyer claimed they were “wearing thin” waiting for the June 6 meeting, even though the Punjab government notified the high court they were looking for the journalist.
The LHC informed police they had until July 25 to locate the missing reporter during the July 5 hearing. The bench was unavailable on the specified day, thus there was no hearing.
The Ministry of Defence’s former Brigadier Falak Naz told the court, “We are working on finding locations and other issues.” We’re trying to get Imran Riaz back quickly.
The Punjab IG informed LHC on September 6 that police will have “good news” in a few days. He has till September 13 to argue.
On September 13, the IG informed the court the enquiry was “going in the right direction,” but they had no “good news” to report.
The LHC offered the Punjab police chief a “last chance” on September 20 to return Riaz by September 26. The court postponed the plea proceedings for his return.
He was located on September 25 after “being missing” for almost four months.
