Govt to reopen schools, universities on Sep 15 only if health situation improves

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood announced that “all educational institutions which include college and universities will be opening from the 15th of September if the health situation of the country has improved.
The minister said that the government will be looking into their decision in the first week of September by keeping an eye on the situation in the country by taking a look at the health indicators and will be providing their final decision after that.
Mahmood said that it has been decided to allow schools to reopen and they will be training the administration staff before 15 September and they will be trained to make sure that SOPs are being followed.
He also said that “provinces will be responsible to make sure SOPs are being followed alerting schools to follow the procedures that are being arranged by the government. It is my request to specifically private schools that they follow the SOPs provided by the government.”
The minister said that universities suggested the government that Ph.D. students should be allowed in a limited quantity to come to the university. He said, “how they decide to call students, we leave it up to the universities.”
He also talked about the problems that the students are facing in some areas where internet facilities are absent, saying that some students were unable to attend their classes due to the absence of the internet.
He said that “educational institutions had suggested that the government should allow examinations to be held. We have received suggestions to allow examinations to be held for medical students and university admission test.”
The minister told the news that the government had decided to unwind some restrictions enforced on important exams and admission tests.
He said that the government has allowed universities to accept students in their hostels up to 30% of their capacity. However, Mahmood said that health checks will be included which include tests and temperature checks to be done by universities.
