After defamation trial win, Johnny Depp may return to Fantastic Beasts franchise says Mads Mikkelsen

Following the defamation trial verdict, Mads Mikkelsen discussed Johnny Depp’s possible comeback to the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Johnny Depp appears to be returning to work in Hollywood after winning his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard. It was recently announced that the actor will be directing a picture for the first time in 25 years. There is a chance that the actor will reprise his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, even though he would not be playing Captain Jack Sparow again.

In the third Fantastic Beasts movie, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Mads Mikkelsen took up Johnny Depp’s role as the evil wizard Grindelwald in the wake of Amber Heard’s accusations against him. Fans of Depp were very critical of Mikkelsen’s hiring, and the actor recently talked about the possibility of Depp playing the same character again in an interview with Deadline.

Speaking to Deadline, Mads asserted that given Depp’s trial victory, things might change and quipped, “Let us see if Johnny comes back.” Mikkelsen went on to say that he has no concerns about Depp coming back and that “He might.” I am a huge Johnny fan. He is a great performer, and I think he did a great job.”

The Danish actor also disclosed to Deadline that he found the role daunting, particularly in light of the way that Depp’s admirers responded to him. In order to further advance Depp’s part, the actor insisted that he would not emulate Johnny’s approach to playing Grindelwald, but rather find a middle ground where he could bring his own unique touch.

Regarding Depp, the actor will play King Louis XV in Netflix’s La Favorite after releasing his latest album with Jeff Beck. It seems that only France will be able to stream the movie.
