Karachi University to commencing online classes to resume academic

Karachi: The University of Karachi announced on Friday that be commencing online classes to resume academic activities as the country continues with smart lockdown which was applied to stop virus spread and help the economy.

According to a statement from the varsity, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Academic Council who met virtually to review into the current situation and to decide about the line of action done by the university. The meeting was led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mohammad Iraqi.

The council also authorised the launch of a training programme for teachers for which deans will appoint a faculty member which will be trained by a team and will be the one to train other faculty members.

A statement was issued which stated, “The dean office would be the hub to facilitate the teachers whereas the Dean Faculty of Education Professor Dr Nasir Salman would mentor teachers in avoiding plagiarism and copyright matters during online classes.”

The online classes and submission of assignments for different courses will be approved according to the course outline and which will be directed until July 15. The online classes will also include the alternative to labs and practical sessions.

People who are not able to take online classes can come to the university on Saturday and Sunday as the university is also allowing in university classes from July 16 to August 13.

The Statement had more information “It has been decided that during the same period, classes, labs or alternatives to labs/practical to complete the leftover part of the syllabus by considering 40 minutes per class.”

The statement has more information regarding the examination “The finalisation of online student examination material would be carried out from August 18 to 21 and the semester examination will be held from August 22 to September 12.”

The second semester will start from September 15 to December 13. The semester examinations will be held from December 14 to 31st.

For the Evening Programme, the online classes, labs and assignment for the evening programme will be attended by July 15 2020, while classes for the leftover syllabus will be conducted from July 16 to September 10.

The completion of online examination material will be held from September 11 to 13.

The first semester exams will start from September 14 to 30 and the second semester will begin from October 1 to December 31 and their exams will commence from January 01 to 20 2021.
