Legendary PTV host & anchor Tariq Aziz passes away at 84

The Pioneer of TV hosting Pakistan Tariq Aziz passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84 in Lahore.
The height of his career was the famous quiz show by the name of Neelam Ghar on state-run TV which was later renamed to The Tariq Aziz Show in 1997 and later Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz in 2006.
He was part of the inaugural team of present for PTV on the first of its transmission on 26 November 1964. The first day of TV transmission in Pakistan included a quiz show which was hosted by Ashfaq Ahmed, a song by Tufail Niazi and long play starting Qavi Khan and Mehnaz Rafi.
The announcers were Tariq Aziz and Kanwal Naseer. He was born in Jalandhar on 28 April 1936. After the partition, his family migrated to Pakistan and settled in Sahiwal from where he got his primary education. He was also an actor and acted in 42 different between 1968 to 1988. He acted in 33 Urdu films while the other movies he acted in were in Punjabi.
He was also involved in politics as he was a member of the National Assembly in the late 90s. He was also known for his charity work for the needy.
The government of Pakistan awarded him with a Pride of Performance award for his exemplary service in 1992. According to his wife, he was diabetic and was taken to the hospital in the morning where he complained about feeling ill. Soon after which the news of his death broke out. Soon after the news many Pakistani celebrities and fans took to social media and shared their condolences along with paying tribute to the person who is considered the face of PTV’s golden days.
Celebrities including Mawra Hocane, Vasay Chaudhry, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Fahad Mustafa and many others paid their respect and condolences to the late legendary TV personality.
Prime Minister Imran Khan Tweeting paying respect to the family and fans of Tariq Aziz he said “Saddened to learn of the passing of Tariq Aziz an icon in his time and a pioneer of our TV game show. My condolences and prayers to his family”
President Arif Alvi described Tariq Aziz as an institution in his field. The president offered condolence to the family of Tariq Aziz and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
The Minister for Interior Brigadier retired Ijaz Ahmed Shah expressed sorrow over the demise of renowned and legendary actor and TV show host Tariq Aziz. In a condolence message, he said” Tariq Aziz services in the art world will always be remembered.
The minister prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the departed soul high ranks in Jannah and give courage to the family to bear his loss with bravery. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz express despair and sadness over the demise of renowned artist and television host Tariq Aziz.
