Petrol price up again, diesel left unchanged

KARACHI: The government finally announced the updated prices of petroleum goods in the wee hours of Wednesday, increasing the price of gasoline by Rs1.45, following a six-day wait.

According to protocol, the notification of updated rates is sent out at midnight.

But this time, the Finance Division’s notification arrived at roughly two in the morning, instead of two hours.

The announcement states that the price of gasoline has gone up from Rs235.98 to Rs237.43.

High-Speed Diesel (HSD) is still available for Rs247.43 per unit. In the meantime, kerosene is now only Rs202.02 instead of Rs210.32, a reduction of Rs8.30.

Light diesel oil was formerly priced at Rs201.54, but now it is only Rs197.28, a decrease of Rs 4.26.

The coalition administration led by the PML-N has been unable to decide whether to alter the rates since September 15, the day they were meant to be amended.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s estimations indicated that there would be a roughly Rs2 increase in diesel and an Rs7 decrease in petrol prices per liter.

The delay gave rise to rumors that the government was helping oil dealers sell the inventory they had previously purchased at higher prices over the previous two weeks.
