Govt passes ordinance to reverse taxes from last budget

• Tobacco industry tax rates increased to raise an additional Rs. In Islamabad, the government increased taxes on tobacco products on Monday, aiming to raise an additional Rs 18 billion from the industry to meet a demand from the IMF before approving Pakistan’s bailout package on August 29. Additionally, it ended the fixed tax program for traders and reversed certain revenue measures from the previous budget via the Tax Laws (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2022, issued on Monday.It took these actions to accommodate various taxpayers and sectors and to comply with certain international responsibilities.

The administration unveiled a fixed tax plan for shops in the 2022 budget.
