House of Dragon: Eve Best REVEALS how she got cast as Rhaenys Velaryon in the Game of Thrones prequel

We’re looking back at an interview with Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, also known as Eve Best, from the Game of Thrones prequel series, as House of Dragon continues to take the internet by storm following its launch on Monday. The actress talked candidly about the series and how she was able to play the Princess in an interview with The Guardian.

Best disclosed that the audition procedure was also highly confidential, saying, “Everything was very secretive.” We were first sent a scene from the first season of Game of Thrones, with the names changed, to audition. Not even the new show’s title was revealed to us.” She continued, saying, “I adored the writing when I finally received a proper screenplay. Co-showrunners Ryan [Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] instantly drew me in with the central idea of the show.

Best added, “There is a line my character says early on: “Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than watch a woman ascend to the Iron Throne.”” in between reciting a few more lines. It feels far too current if the term “Iron” is removed from that statement. Lastly, they informed me that my character rode dragons. I was accepted!” Before landing the role, the actress also disclosed that she was unaware of the global phenomenon, saying, “I was a total Game of Thrones virgin. Although I was aware that it was significant, I was taken aback by the enormity of the situation.” “Entering the set felt like entering New York, but instead of tall skyscrapers, it was Dragonstone,” the actress remarked. The crew was astoundingly large—nearly 4,000 people. Since then, I’ve caught up.
