Harry Styles addresses allegations of ‘queerbaiting’ by netizens: That’s my personal experience

Harry Styles is opening up about the truth. The “Watermelon Sugar” singer was accused by Rolling Stone of “queerbaiting” as he expressed his support for the LGBTQ community and discussed his sense of style. For those unfamiliar, “queerbaiting” is a term used to describe instances where celebrities or mainstream media exploit LGBTQ-related topics to attract views and likes on social media.

When asked by the publication about accusations of using the LGBTQ community as an “aesthetic” for financial gain without truly associating with it, Styles responded. “Sometimes people say, ‘You’ve only publicly been with women,’ and I think, I haven’t publicly been with anyone.” He added, “If someone takes a picture of you with someone, that doesn’t mean you’re choosing to have a public relationship or anything.” The famously private former One Direction member also recently expressed his view that acknowledging one’s sexual orientation is “outdated.”

In a previous interview with Page Six, Styles remarked, “I’ve been really open about it with my friends, but that’s my personal experience; it’s mine.” He emphasized, “The whole point of where we should be moving towards, which is accepting everyone and being more open, is that it doesn’t matter. It’s about not having to label everything, not having to state what boxes you’re checking.”

Styles is known to be in a widely recognized relationship that began publicly in January 2021. The couple met during the production of Olivia Wilde’s film “Don’t Worry Darling,” where Styles stars opposite Florence Pugh.
