Government formation: PML-N and PPP face challenges in reaching a consensus

Pakistan will not have a new government as long as the two main parties, the PML-N and the PPP, keep negotiating.

The latest five-hour meeting was fruitless, demonstrating the difficulty of achieving a majority coalition and the complexity of the political environment.

Meeting in the home of PML-N leader Ishaq Dar, the most recent discussions attempted to finalize alliance proposals. The process has been complex and time-consuming since both parties try to benefit as much as possible while dealing with internal issues.

Ishaq Dar, Azam Nazir Tarar, and others were part of the PML-N team. In contrast, Murad Ali Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Nadeem Afzal Chan were PPP representatives.

The parties have chosen to confer with their respective leadership before proceeding, which will only add extra difficulty. This means that essential choices about ministerial roles, power-sharing arrangements, and policy agendas are still up for grabs.

Reports from those in the know suggest that the discussions are moving forward. PML-N senator Azam Nazir Tarar says, “Talks are going on positively.” Some choices on the PPP’s presence in the cabinet, he said, have already been taken.

Nevertheless, allegations of electoral fraud continue to cast a shadow, and Tarar has joined the chorus of voices demanding an inquiry. Problems may arise when the parties try to settle their differences of opinion because of this. Pakish News
