Pakistan eye series-clinching victory against Dutch

ROOTTERDAM: Following his team’s 16-run victory over the Netherlands in the first One-Day International of their three-match series, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam acknowledged feeling anxious at some points in the game due to “tricky circumstances.”

Pakistan will want to make amends in the second ODI and win the series on Thursday. The bowlers’ inability to stick to their lines and lengths against the Dutch middle-order made it difficult for them to win.

It will be up to Babar and first-game centurion Fakhar Zaman to be in the mix once more, with the middle-order and opener Imam-ul-Haq likely to step up. The good news for Pakistan, though, is that all-rounder Shadab Khan, who bowls with spin, was among the runs in the opening game and is anticipated to remain reliable.

The Dutch, on the other hand, gave up a total well over 300 in the series opener due to their poor play with the ball in hand. However, the batsmen put on heroic displays, with three half-centurions—Scott Edwards, Tom Cooper, and Vikramjit Singh—almost pulling off the impossible.

At the very end, captain Edwards stayed at the crease and amassed an undefeated 71 runs off of 60 balls. He fought the fight alone, with very little assistance from the enemy side. His knock was not answered, with the hosts confined to 298-8.

We sense that we are getting closer to winning a few games, but today we failed to convert two or three receptions. We disappointed ourselves,” Edwards remarked following the game.
